Straight Back Cornrows
Although straight back cornrows are commonly associated with men and prison. Straight back cornrows have the potential to be surprisingly feminine. Small straight back cornrows are one of my favorite styles to create. While most clients are a bit reluctant to try this classic, in fear it would expose their hairline or somehow make them look masculine, after trying this style it’ll probably become one of your favorite go to protective and productive hair styles.
I’ll admit my hesitation to try this style on my myself has led me to consider the details of what cornrows suitable for a dainty woman entails. Turns out, it depends on the client. Customizing the cornrows at the front of the head closest to the client’s hairline is essential in turning this masculine classic into a feminine go to style for any occasion.
Contrary to the name of this style, some clients don’t actually get the cornrows straight. When creating this look the parting in the front near the hairline is customized to compliment the client’s hairline. This may mean curving some braids at the beginning near the hairline to give the client the illusion of a more rounded hairline. Although some braids may start curved, the braids eventually straighten out by the time it reaches the middle of the client’s head.
Each cornrow begins with the client’s natural hair. Extensions are gradually added into the cornrows for a seamless look. This technique reduces the tension on the hairline which is essential to a productive and protective hair style. Cornrows gradually get smaller as they approach the nape of the client’s neck, making it comfortable to bend the head without tension and allowing clients to sleep comfortably at night with fresh cornrows.
The amount of braiding hair used to create this look is unique to the size of the client’s head, the density of the clients hair as well as the length of the braids requested by the client.
This look is perfect for keeping the hair out of your face while you treat acne. Or keeping your hair tied away while tending to a newborn baby. This style can even seamlessly fit under your wig.
